The Fortis Code

PURPOSE AND MISSION

At Fortis, we are committed to creating Games Where You Belong. In order to achieve our mission, we expect community members to adhere to the Fortis Code, which is designed to ensure a safe, respectful, and enjoyable gaming environment.

COMMUNITY CODE

By participating in our gaming community, you agree to adhere to this Fortis Code. The Fortis Code supplements and forms part of our Terms of Service. The Fortis Code and other rules posted to our websites, apps, and games are not meant to be exhaustive. We reserve the right to modify them, as well as take appropriate disciplinary measures including temporary and permanent chat mutes, or account termination, regardless of whether a specific behavior is identified as inappropriate.

PLAYER DO'S & DON'TS

This section outlines what is expected of all community members, including behaviors to embrace, actions to avoid, and boundaries that must never be crossed. Follow the “Do’s” to contribute positively, respect the “Don’ts” to maintain a safe and welcoming environment, and adhere strictly to the “Never” rules to ensure the safety and trust of the entire community.

Do

  • Respect Your Teammates
    • Create a safe and supportive space by being kind, considerate, and thoughtful in your words and actions. Respect boundaries, listen actively, and help foster a culture where everyone feels valued.
  • Commit to Fairness
    • What do we mean by committing to fairness? Play by the rules, treat everyone equally, and don’t cheat, exploit, or take unfair advantages.
  • Share Joy
    • What do we mean by sharing joy? Sharing joy means contributing positively to the community by celebrating others' achievements, encouraging and supporting your peers, and creating moments of fun and happiness. It’s about being uplifting and helping to make the space enjoyable for everyone. A small act of kindness, a word of encouragement, or even a cheerful attitude can go a long way in brightening someone’s experience.
  • Create a Welcoming Space for Community Members
    • If you are just joining us and are new to the community or have been here with us from the start, we want you to feel like you belong. What does it mean to create a welcoming space for community members? Welcoming all community members means making them feel included, valued, and comfortable. This can involve greeting each other warmly, offering help or guidance if they have questions, and encouraging them to participate. It’s about creating a friendly and supportive environment where everyone feels like they belong from the start.

Don’t

  • Harass Players or Developers
    • What is harassment? Harassment is any behavior that targets someone to upset, scare, or hurt them, even implicitly. This includes bullying, insults, threats, or repeatedly bothering someone after they’ve asked you to stop.
  • Share, Use, or Encourage Discriminatory Language, and Hate Speech
    • What is hate speech? Hate speech is any language or behavior that attacks, demeans, or discriminates against someone based on their identity, such as race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other personal characteristic. This includes slurs, derogatory comments, or content that spreads prejudice or promotes violence against a group or individual.
    • What does it mean to encourage hate speech? Encouraging hate speech means supporting, sharing, or amplifying harmful language that targets others based on their identity. This includes agreeing with hateful comments, spreading them, cheering them on, or allowing them to happen without discouraging them.
    • What is discriminatory language? Discriminatory language is any words or phrases that demean, exclude, or insult someone based on their identity, such as race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or other personal characteristics. This includes slurs, stereotypes, or any language that reinforces prejudice or treats someone unfairly because of who they are.
  • Engage in Spam or Trolling
    • What does it mean to engage in spam? Engaging in spam means posting repetitive, irrelevant, or excessive content that disrupts conversations or clutters the community. This includes mass-posting links, advertisements, or messages without context, or flooding chats with unnecessary content that doesn’t contribute meaningfully.
    • What does it mean to troll? Trolling is intentionally provoking or upsetting others to create conflict, disrupt discussions, or seek attention. This includes making inflammatory comments, derailing conversations, or using sarcasm and jokes in a way designed to annoy or hurt others.
  • Share messages for commercial purposes
    • What does it mean to send messages for commercial purposes? Advertising, or soliciting, or transmitting any commercial advertisements, including chain letters, junk, or spam e-mail or repetitive or misleading messages to anyone.

Never

  • Threaten Violence
    • What does it mean to threaten violence? Threatening violence includes making statements or actions that imply harm or danger to another person, even as a joke. This behavior is unacceptable and creates an unsafe environment for everyone.
  • Reveal Another Community Member’s Personal Information
    • What does it mean to reveal another community member’s personal information? Revealing personal information, also known as doxxing, means sharing someone’s private details, such as their real name, address, phone number, or other sensitive information, without their permission. This violates their privacy and can put them at risk.
  • Impersonate Others
    • What does it mean to impersonate others? Impersonating others means pretending to be another person, whether it’s a fellow community member, a developer, or a staff member. Even as a joke this behavior can mislead others, create confusion, and damage trust within the community.
  • Encourage Self-Harm or Dangerous Behavior
    • What does it mean to encourage self-harm or dangerous behavior? Encouraging self-harm or dangerous behavior involves promoting, suggesting, or joking about actions that could harm someone physically, emotionally, or mentally. This is harmful and goes against creating a safe and supportive environment for all.

Guidelines

Behavior

Players and community members should treat each other with kindness, respect, and fairness. This means interacting politely, listening to others' ideas without dismissing them, and avoiding any language or actions that could harm or offend. Players should do their best to help others when they have questions, promote inclusivity, and resolve disagreements calmly and constructively. Treat everyone as you’d like to be treated, and contribute to creating a positive and welcoming environment for all.

Community Interactions

Players and community members should engage with the community in a way that fosters respect, inclusivity, and positivity. Be mindful of your words and actions, ensuring they uplift and support others rather than harm or exclude them. Share ideas constructively, celebrate diverse perspectives, and handle disagreements respectfully (yes, you can disagree). By contributing thoughtfully, you help create a welcoming space for everyone to connect and thrive.

Fair Play

Fair play means following the rules, treating everyone equally, and ensuring the community remains enjoyable for all. Avoid cheating, exploiting, or taking unfair advantages that undermine the experience for others. Respect the spirit of the game and encourage others to do the same. By committing to fairness, you help build a transparent, trustworthy, and positive environment where everyone can play, participate, and thrive.

Off-Platform behaviour

To ensure we build communities where everyone belongs, we may take action against player accounts where a user has violated the Fortis Code outside of one of our games or platforms. We will only do this (i) when we can directly link the off-platform behaviour to a Fortis player account and (ii) only to the extent that such behaviour concerns any activity that (a) would or could involve the physical harm of others or that presents a risk of causing physical harm to others or (b) is toxic behaviour that affects other players or our community.

Content Rules

Abusive & Inappropriate Behavior

Fortis is committed to maintaining a respectful and inclusive community. Any form of abusive or inappropriate behavior—including profanity, harassment, hate speech, intimidation, or offensive language—is strictly prohibited. These actions create an unwelcoming and hostile environment that goes against our mission to provide a safe and enjoyable space for all.

Prohibited Content Includes:

  • Profanity & Offensive Language – Using explicit, demeaning, or aggressive language.
  • Hate Speech – Any content that promotes violence or discrimination based on identity, such as race, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or disability.

Your safety and the safety of others matter.

Our community thrives on positive engagement. Content that disrupts others' enjoyment, including spam, griefing, scamming, and the use of bots, interferes with fair and meaningful interactions and will not be tolerated.

Prohibited Content Includes:

Cheating & Unfair Play

Fairness is the foundation of our community. Exploiting bugs, using unauthorized or malicious software, or otherwise manipulating the game to gain an unfair advantage ruins the experience for everyone.

Prohibited Content Includes:
  • Bug Abuse & Exploits – Taking advantage of unintended game mechanics.
  • Automation & Macros – Using software to automate gameplay actions.
  • Account Sharing – Allowing others to access your account or using someone else’s.
  • Game Manipulation – Engaging in actions that harm the integrity of the game.
  • Hacking - Attempting to hijack another player account. Uploading or sharing anything that contains malware (like viruses, worms, trojans, keyloggers, or time bombs), or any code meant to harm, spy on, or interfere with our Services or other players; or accessing private parts of the game or our Services, or intercepting or manipulating our communications or data.

Play fair, respect the spirit of the game, and enjoy the challenge as it was meant to be.

Line Break

Political Content

Discussions of politics can be divisive and detract from the focus of our community - people play games to escape from reality. While respectful conversations are encouraged, inflammatory, coercive, or harmful political content is not permitted.

Prohibited Content Includes:
  • Insults Based on Political Beliefs – Targeting others for their views.
  • Encouragement of Hate or Violence – Political speech that promotes harm.
  • Glorification of Historical Atrocities – Statements that justify or celebrate harm against groups.
  • Coercion & Political Pressure – Forcing or pressuring others to adopt specific political views.

Keep discussions friendly and inclusive—our community is for gaming, not political debates.

Line Break

Misinformation

Spreading false or misleading information, particularly on important topics such as current events or public health, creates confusion and distrust within the community.

Prohibited Content Includes:
  • Fake News & Fabricated Information – Intentionally misleading narratives.
  • Conspiracy Theories – False claims that spread misinformation.
  • Manipulated Facts & Propaganda – Deliberate distortion of information.

We encourage informed, thoughtful discussions, but accuracy and responsibility are key.

Concern for Welfare

We strive to create a supportive environment. Discussions about mental health, self-harm, disclosure of abuse, or any crises that could lead to harm of others, should be met with care and directed to appropriate resources rather than dismissed or encouraged.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please seek support or call emergency services for any immediate threat.

Reporting and Support

If you see behavior that violates these guidelines or makes someone feel unsafe, please report this in game. Our team is here to listen and address issues fairly and promptly. If you or someone else is in immediate danger or experiencing a crisis, contact emergency services or local authorities right away for help. Together, we can ensure the community remains a positive and welcoming space for everyone.

Moderation

We use a number of methods, both proactive and reactive, to keep our community safe and enforce our Fortis Code. This includes:

  • Reviewing player submitted in-game abuse reports
  • Automated technology to detect and remove content
  • A team of specialist human Content Moderators working 24/7
  • Manual audits and reviews of decision making by our systems and moderators

Penalties

We take rule violations seriously to ensure a safe, respectful, and welcoming community for everyone. The action we might take is based on a range of factors, including the severity and type of violation.

This means minor violations may result in a warning or a short chat mute, while more serious or repeated violations could lead to longer temporary mutes, permanent chat mutes, or even a permanent ban. Each case is reviewed individually using all available information, including looking at the context of the chat.

"Our goal is to both protect the community and encourage positive play within all of our games." Each case will be reviewed thoroughly, contextually, and fairly to ensure appropriate action is taken. If you feel that we have made a wrong decision, you can appeal this decision through our support centre.
