Twilight Towers: The Journey Continues
Greetings, Lightkeepers!
It’s been a few weeks since our last big update entered Fernhollow. In case you missed it (we know, you probably didn’t), our Hearth and Homes (1.7.0) update introduced a new energy system alongside manual harvesting.
Your feedback has been pouring in ever since, and, well, it’s been a bit mixed. Some of you like it, many of you don’t, and some of you are simply unsure about what’s going on. All valid perspectives to have! We want to take some time to clarify why these changes were made and where we plan to go next. What’s important to keep in mind is that we want you, our noble Lightkeepers, to be at the center of that change. So thank you for the feedback, and please keep it coming because we can’t do it without you! Truly.
To begin, let’s pull back the curtain a bit on why we made these decisions. When we say we want you at the center of our changes, that means we listen to your feedback and put as much of it as we can into action to improve your overall experience. For example, Villagers and their function in the overall energy regeneration system have consistently generated a lot of feedback – like, a lot of feedback. We’ll admit, it wasn’t the most comprehensive system. That’s why we decided it needed some improvements.
Our primary goal was to address the feedback we had received about Villagers, but we also wanted to work towards a more tactile, scalable, and autonomous system where Energy regeneration was easier to understand, and you actually got the resources you wanted from harvesting. Enter the Energy system changes: Villagers retired from harvesting duties, Houses received a clearer Energy regeneration function, and Hearths were added to increase Energy storage. You also requested some sort of Offline Harvesting/Idle Rewards system, so we took our first step towards a solution with these changes as well.
We get the sense that this…didn’t work as well as we wanted it to.
What we’ve been hearing in response to the changes is that harvesting is now a tedious task, especially for those of you who have massive energy reserves. Some of you have mentioned that having more control over resource harvesting feels better, but because it comes at the cost of having an extremely cluttered and disorganized map, the overall experience ultimately feels worse. The other feedback we’ve been hearing is that the changes just suck (ouch, but fair). That feedback is less constructive. However, we still hear the message loud and clear: the recent changes did not have a positive impact on your game experience.
That brings us to what’s next. As you may have seen in our latest blog, we’re gearing up to launch Twilight Towers worldwide (🎉🌎), but there’s still some work that needs to be done before we’re ready to show off the game to the world. That means we still have time to further adjust existing features and to add entirely new features in future updates.. If you have strong opinions about the current state of the game, now is a super crucial time to share those opinions! (Psst, even the recent energy changes are up for discussion). You can share it on our Facebook Page, or you can contact us directly through our Support portal. It always warrants repeating (because it’s true): your feedback has a major impact and helps us make an enjoyable game that will stand the test of time.
Speaking of feedback, if you’re someone who looks at things with a critical eye (not derogatory) and likes getting sneak peeks of games and updates before they’re shown to the greater audience, Fortis has a program that’s made for you (seriously, we made it just for you). Join our Community Outreach Program to discuss what you like and don’t like about video games on all platforms, do play-alongs with members of our team, and play test early builds of some Fortis games. You might even get to play some early updates of Twilight Towers before they go out to everyone…👀 Your feedback will help us build games where you belong. If we’ve piqued your interest, make sure to include the referral code TLT in the sign-up form!
Thank you again for all your support and patience while we continue to make improvements in Fernhollow! We can’t wait to share our next update with you as soon as it’s ready. Until then, we look forward to hearing from you.
Until next time, Lightkeepers.
The Twilight Towers Team
